EXHIBIT 232HD "BOUND MANUSCRIPT; 1868" SHOWN HERE IS A UNIQUE
ITEM FROM THE COLLECTION OF INTERNATIONAL GRANDMASTER HUGH DEVLIN, OF IRELAND. FROM MR. DEVLIN....
" I
once went into
an old book shop in the old town area of Edinburgh to ask about draughts books.
Sometimes they had an odd one in stock like from Wiswell or Ryan, or Belasco. I
always bought whatever they had, sometimes already owning several copies already.
I'd then try to swap them with someone else for something I didn't already
have. Garret Owens and myself swapped several books this way.
However on this
day they told me that they had two draughts books in stock. They told me that
had come into possession
(via a book auction) of an old players manuscript of his own games. They wanted
£100 for it. They got it for me and I was truly amazed. However, on examination
it was not a player's original games but a hand written (in several notebooks)
copy of the games from Sturges, Anderson, Martins, Sinclair etc. It became
apparent that someone else had also gone into the library or they had borrowed
books from their friends, and had hand written each book into a copy book, much
like photocopying a book today, only the hard way! In addition there was a note
book containing "Critical positions" by Sturges, Wyllie, Anderson,
and Martins.
All the notebooks
where hand cut (slightly different sizes) and they were bound together in hard
back - with an original copy of Drummond's Scottish Draughts Play 2nd Ed,
Wyllie Vs Martins 1864 Original Matchbook , all the Wyllie Vs Martins 1867
games handwritten. All books and hand
written notebooks were bound together and numbered in sequence amounting to 475
pages. Inside the fly leaf is a signature Wm. Brown, Lennoxtown. November 1868!
My eyes nearly popped out! The second book was an original Anderson's Game of
Draughts Simplified (revised by Mc Culloch) 1905 for which they wanted £50.
I informed them
that the "notebook" was not original games, but the hand written copy
of games that were published elsewhere. He told me that I seemed to know my
draughts, and he offered me both books for £60. I nearly took his hand off
while shaking it! Hugh" SUBMITTED BY H.

EXHIBIT 157KL "PAYNE'S INTRODUCTION TO THE GAME OF DRAUGHTS"
SHOWN IS A UNIQUE COPY OF THE FIRST BOOK PRINTED IN ENGLISH
ON THE GAME OF DRAUGHTS/CHECKERS.
THIS COPY IS FROM THE COLLECTION OF OMOCH EDITOR KEN LOVELL, WHO
ALSO GIVES THE FOLLOWING....
"I bought the book in an antiquarian bookshop in London in 1984, and it was described in their
catalogue as an original 1756 edition. It corresponds to Abel Parlow’s issue “B”, which contrary to W.T.
Call’s claims has come to be generally regarded as the original. I was able to chat to Donald Eddy of Cornell University,
a visiting expert on Dr. Johnson. He confirmed this view and gave me a photocopy of a section from Allen T. Hazen's 1937 book,
"Samuel Johnson's Prefaces and Dedications", which explains the reasons. Parlow had come to the same conclusion many years
ago, and his article from the British Draughts Journal appears under Exhibit 001LS on this website. I referred to Hazen in
my book, "Draughts Books of the Twentieth Century".
Apparently Payne died between 1773 and 1779. My book is signed "The gift of the author
to Robert Fellowes", and if this is genuine it means that this couldn't be the later edition, which has been dated nearer
to 1800. My copy came from the library at Shotesham Park,
Norfolk, which was the home of an old country family with royal connections.
The current Robert Fellowes (Baron Fellowes) is the brother-in-law of Princess Diana.
I’ve recently contacted the bookshop and was told of a newer work: “A Bibliography
of the Works of Samuel Johnson: Volume I: 1731-1759”, published at the Clarendon
Press, Oxford, in 2000. Composed by the
distinguished Johnson scholar, the late J. D. Fleeman of Oxford University, it has been described as “the
work of a lifetime” and is regarded as the definitive work on the subject. I was sent a photocopy of the relevant pages,
where it is explained that the “B” edition is printed on traditional “laid” paper, whereas the “A”
edition is partly printed on “wove” paper, which was not used in England
until about 1780. Fleeman has evidence to date the later edition to 1788/9.
(Fleeman’s Volume 1 is available at £272 or about $450.)
From the above, it seems clear that the “B” edition is indeed the 1756 original."

EXHIBIT 136JH "THIRD AMERICAN TOURNAMENT BOOK SIGNED" THE THIRD AMERICAN TOURNAMENT
FOR THE CHECKERS PLAYING CHAMPIONSHIP OF AMERICA WAS PLAYED IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS ON JANUARY 11-15, 1915 AND WAS
WON BY THE DEFENDING AMERICAN TOURNAMENT CHAMPION HUGH HENDERSON. HENDERSON BECAME THE FIRST TO ACCOMPLISH THE RARE FEAT
OF WINNING TWO SUCCESSIVE AMERICAN TOURNAMENTS.
THE GAMES OF THIS TOURNEY WERE PUBLISHED IN BOOK FORM BY E.H. GREENE AND ANNOTATED BY HARRY LIEBERMAN AND LOUIS
GINSBERG, WITH AN ASSIST FROM NEWELL BANKS.
THE COPY SHOWN WAS PURCHASED ON EBAY FROM A SELLER WHO WROTE ....
"As for where I obtained it, etc., there really isn't much to say, other than I acquired it
with some other books at an auction in the Ocean City, MD area in late July (2010)."
WHAT MAKES THIS COPY UNIQUE IS THAT THE BOOK CONTAINS THE SIGNATURE OF MR. IRVING CHERNEV.
CHERNEV WAS A NATIONAL MASTER STRENGTH PLAYER OF THE GAME OF CHESS, BUT IS PROBABLY BETTER KNOWN AS
A PROLIFIC AUTHOR OF CHESS BOOKS.
WHAT MAY NOT BE AS WELL KNOWN IS THAT HE HAD A SHORT CAREER AS CHECKERS PLAYER IN THE 1920'S. IT HAS BEEN
WRITTEN THAT HE QUIT THE GAME, AS HE WAS FRUSTRATED WITH HIS INABILITY TO COMPETE WITH THE MASTER PLAYERS IN THE NEW YORK
CLUBS (GONOTSKY, GINSBERG, HOPPER, ETC.) DURING THE TIME PERIOD. HE THEN FOCUSED SOLELY ON CHESS, WITH MUCH GREATER SUCCESS.
MANY YEARS LATER (1981), CHERNEV WOULD WRITE A BOOK ON CHECKERS,"THE COMPLEAT DRAUGHTS PLAYER" OF WHICH AN
ORIGINAL COPY IS, IN AND OF ITSELF, SOMEWHAT RARE AND DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN.

EXHIBIT 134MD "SIGNED CHAMPIONSHIP CHECKERS SIMPLIFIED"
SHOWN IS THE INSCRIPTION ON A COPY OF CHAMPIONSHIP CHECKERS SIMPLIFIED.
WHAT MAKES THIS BOOK UNIQUE IS THE FACT THAT IT WAS SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, WILLIAM RYAN, TO MICHAEL (CAROL)
DEAN.
MICHAEL IS THE SON OF MR. STANLEY DEAN, M.D., WHO IS MOST FAMOUS IN CHECKER CIRCLES AS THE AUTHOR OF AN ARTICLE
PUBLISHED IN THE AMERICAN CHECKERIST, VOL.6, NO.4, APRIL 1950, AND CONCLUDED IN THE FOLLOWING ISSUE.
FROM MICHAEL...
"My father, Stanley R. Dean was a student of Willie Ryan's. He also wrote an article as a psychiatrist for The American
Checkerist. Willie Ryan penned the enclosed inscription in a copy of
Championship Checkers Simplified (Kenmore Publishing, 1951) which he gave to me when I was about 10 years old."

COVERS. IT CONTAINS SEVERAL OTHER MATCHES, ALL SEEMINGLY WRITTEN BY THE SAME PERSON.

"MYSTERIES OF DAMA: SIGNED "
EXHIBITED IS A COPY OF THE BOOK "MYSTERIES OF DAMA", SECOND EDITION, REVISED.
THIS COPY IS UNIQUE IN THAT IT WAS SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, JULIUS D'ORIO, IN 1927.
THE BOOK IS OWNED BY BOB NEWELL , AND IS ONE THE PRIZED POSSESSIONS IN HIS PERSONAL LIBRARY.
FROM BOB NEWELL...
"The first one (image shown) is the book cover. The second one is on the flyleaf and bears
the author's signature and greeting to an unknown checkerist of 1927, Ralph Stotsky . You may have some info on him,
but I have none at all beyond a mention I found from the Southwestern Jewish Press noting that he was the best man at a Los Angeles wedding in July 1947. This makes sense, as Julius D'Orio lived in Southern
California. The third one is the title page. The fourth one is the author's photo as contained
in the book. The fifth one is the page immediately preceding the text of the book. The sixth one is from
the very end of the book and is the author's fanciful farewell. As a native Italian, Mr. D'Orio mastered
English very well indeed, but employed it in some rather unusual ways. I got the book via Amazon, on-line, from
a used book seller in Maine. There must be an interesting story about how this book made its way from the Los Angeles area all the way to a small town in Maine, but it's a story which unfortunately
we will never hear told." SUBMITTED BY B. NEWELL
